Conversation Between My 5- and 7- Year Old Nephews

  • 7-year old: I think [my name] and [Boyfriend's name] should get married.
  • 5-year old: Me too. I just love [Boyfriend] so much!
  • 7-year old: I just want to wear a tuxedo in a wedding.

Book Challenge 2012

I decided to challenge myself to read more this year.  I hope to read at least 20 books this year.  I know it doesn’t seem like a lot for some, but it is for me.  I enjoy reading.  I was sort of a book worm growing up.  But in the last 5 or 6 years, I have hardly read any books.  Life just gets in the way and it’s easier for me to watch TV than read a book.

Last year, I started reading a lot more and was invited to join a book club.  I think I read 12 books last year, so I thought doubling it would be fair.  So far, I’ve read 4 books and it’s still January!  But come warmer months, I think it will be harder for me to make the time to read.

Books I’ve read:

  • The Adults by Alison Espach
  • Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling
  • The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
  • The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler

Currently reading: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Did I really just get the chills watching Blair run down the aisle?

The Boyfriend’s sister had her baby this morning.  We are heading out to Ohio to see them later today.  We had this weekend planned for a while; going to see his parents and have Christmas with them.  What good timing this baby has!

I need a vacation…

and a massage…

and a manicure…

and a good home cooked meal…

and a good night’s sleep…

Age Difference

Today is the Boyfriend’s birthday.  He is 6 1/2 years younger than me but it doesn’t really bother me.  Age differences more than, say four years, used to bother me when I was younger.  But now, I look at it more than how old do I feel and do I feel I am in the same place emotionally with someone else?  Are we in the same stage of our lives?  Do we want the same things?  At the same times?  And with him, the answers seem to be yes.

Now, he takes every chance he can to give me a hard time about “robbing the cradle.”  And I don’t really feel that much older than him until a song or something comes on the radio and it reminds me of high school and him of elementary school.

Music City

I have been traveling to Nashville for the past 4 weeks for work. I have to stay over the weekend but have tonight off. Some coworkers and I have decided to check out the Nashville nightlife. I hope it’s not all country music and honky tonks.

I think the Dharma Initiative is responsible for the disappearance of the ‘63 on Alcatraz.

Some people love January and February because of playoff football.  I love them because it is awards show season.

New TV

There are some things I like to splurge on: clothes, vacations, dining out.  There are other things that I am more conservative about: cars, shoes, handbags.  Another one of those things is TVs.  I have a 27” CRT television.  With as much TV as I watch, you’d like I’d have a fancy flat panel HD TV.  I’ve had this TV since 2001.  I have never had any problems with this TV and spending the money on a fancy new TV hasn’t been a prioirty.  I’d rather go on a trip than buy a TV.  The Boyfriend makes fun of my TV relentlessly.  I am not sure why my TV bothers him so much.

The other night, he calls and tells me he has good news for me.  He has bought himself a new fancy Google TV.  I am happy for him but wonder why this is good news for me.  Well, he’s giving me his old 40” flat panel HD TV. We’re setting it up this weekend.  Now I have to order HD channels.
